I HAVE ARRIVED TO WUHAN UNIVERSITY!
A night train on a train i did not physicly fit well brought me to wuhan city at 7 am. Not really knowing what to do whatsoever i quickly discovered a bunch of nigerians who were going to the same university! What luck?!
They only spoke french but hey, that was no problem. what was a problem was the university arranged to pick them up and somehow i was shuffled off and forced to get a cab. Not the end of the world. Except the que for the cab was long. 40 mins kind of long.
The taxi driver knew of the university but had no idea where in the university to take me. For my friends in texas, this campus is what seems to be mabye 4-5 times the size of texas state. At state we have what 2 fields, with tracks? this has 6. We have a hill that the student center is on? We have a small mountain the school is built around...
So the taxi driver took me to the front gate and dropped me off. I just followed the crowds of young people. They all entered some field that looked like check in. A few students spoke english and told me i was in the wrong place. I had no idea, but eventually i found a student who walked with me over some hills down some roads and to a small building that was special for forign students. !! yay! didnt take that long but it sure felt long.
But i was no where near a long day till i got in line. First it was waiting to get paperwork. Then another room to get a key for a room. Please take note that the people in charge dont speak english... next it is to pay for the university. well there was a problem. they dont take credit cards.
so then i was helped, and they took me to the bank to open a bank account. It was not that difficult just somewhat anoying. mainly because afterward to send the wire transfer paper, the bank didnt have a fax. so i had to go to the store next door to use the fax. that would of not that bad, except he didnt know how to use the machine. so it took a while to figure which button did what. I still dont know if it went through. I hope it did. the bank should be opening soon.
If it does then i can pay for school. Of course all this was yesterday. and tommorow i hope i can pay.
Now let me tell you the interesting part! First they give me a room 4-11C. 4th building on the sixth floor, room C. Well the problem was that there was stuff there. Apparently he was comming back, so they told me to change rooms. So they gave me room B the room next door. the next problem was that the key didnt work. Now another conversation with a helpful student and they give me another room! except now i had the key to the new room. and i realize that when i walked back to the dormatories i dont have the key to enter the first room where my things were locked!! (i think this annoyed me because i was an RA, and i know how the process works, or can work.) yea yea.. it was this difficult. I found the manager to help me and he unlocked the first room to move into the new one.
I do like this room much better. The room is basically San Jack, but with a kitchenete. The rooms are clean, or rather clean. I still want to get some wipes, etc. But i will have to wait for the money to transfer through. i will want to add some things like, blankets, a rug. yea i bought a sheet and pillow but i still cant afford a blanket yet. i only had a few hundred yuan left. it will all work out. i just have to wait a while. so these last few hours what have i been doin?
i meet my roomates, a cool group of fellows. Walked around the university. Set up my room. etc. and now blog. Wish me luck!!
